One thing is apparent about Search Engine Optimisation campaigns – sometimes the results you get are not as you expected. If you have a bit of a browse through various Search Engine Optimisation forums you will pick up on a recurring point, and it usually goes something like this: “I hired someone to do my SEO, but I’m not overly sure what he has actually done”.
This is one of the issues with SEO and to be perfectly honest, I place a significant portion of the blame at the feet of the Company who was responsible for hiring – why did you not do a bit of due diligence and survey rankings? Why did you not look at previous results achieved by the company or ask for testimonials? The same questions are typically answered with the following: “I didn’t think I had to – why would I?”.
Monitor Your Campaign:
One thing that never fails to amaze me is when a client comes to me and says: “I’ve been with my current SEO guy for over two years now and I haven’t really noticed any improvement” – why have you been with him anything like this long?
Your SEO consultant should be providing you with regular updates in regards to ranking shifts, and these updates should cover off a broad selection of keywords – you should also be given reports on your ROI as well as traffic increases. If you’re not being given this, or if you haven’t been offered this, then look elsewhere.
Start Looking Local And Save Money:
Again, it never fails to amaze me how many people simply type in SEO, pluck a Company out of the hat and then that is that – six months later, nothing.
The main problem with choosing by rankings is simply that the SEO Company will ALWAYS have invested more resources in their own rankings than they will ever invest in your own Campaign. Secondly, these companies spend a significant amount of money to get where they are and they merely stack clients up – one account manager could be managing as many as 50 accounts.
So, start looking local – if you are based in Norwich then search for an SEO in Norwich, meet with him and have a chat about your campaign; not only will he be a lot more focussed on getting results, but the results will typically be a lot better, too.
